GriefShare Friends

Letter to the Editor:
Dear Editor,
Eight years ago, my youngest son, Andrew, fell from the bluffs and died.
Since that time, my life has been ruined by grief, anger, regret, guilt and all the emotions caused by traumatic sudden child loss. I've tried everything the experts say. I've read books, attended counseling - both group and one on one. I've been prescribed antidepressants and self medicated with alcohol. Last year was so bad I feared I wouldn't make it.
This year I was very fortunate! I learned of a group called GriefShare. It is a Christian-based group with a difference. It was very structured with videos, group and a workbook that helps you through the week. Sponsored by Calvary Cares and Calvary Baptist Church, it is led by people who understand loss.
It is a 13-week program, and I found myself really looking forward to seeing those that attended. We became a family of sufferers that came together to get help and help others.
For the first time in eight years, I can face the holidays with faith and hope, not overwhelming sorrow. If you are stuck in grief and destroyed by loss I highly recommend this group.
You have nothing to lose, and I pray God helps you through this difficult time!

Meeting Needs Since 1999
It may be hard for you to feel optimistic about the future right now. If you've lost a spouse, child, family member or friend, you‘ve probably found that there are not many people who understand the deep hurt you feel.
This can be a confusing time when you feel isolated and have many questions about things you’ve never faced before.
That’s why there's GriefShare, a support group for people grieving the loss of someone close. This group is sponsored by people who understand what you are experiencing and want to offer you comfort and encouragement during this difficult time.
GriefShare groups meet weekly to help you face these challenges and move toward rebuilding your life. Each GriefShare session has three distinct elements:
Each week your group will watch a video seminar featuring top experts on grief and recovery subjects. These videos are produced in an interesting-to-watch television magazine format featuring expert interviews, real-life case studies, dramatic reenactments and on-location video.
After viewing the video, you and the other group members will spend time as a support group, discussing what was presented in that week’s video seminar and what is going on in your lives.
During the week you will have the opportunity to use your workbook for further personal study of the grieving process and to help sort out your emotions through journaling. Your group will spend time discussing questions and comments from the workbook study.
Regular meetings offer those who are walking through their journey of grief a place of hope and healing. Come walk with us as we travel this road together.
